Large-Scale Earthwork Progress Digitalization Practices Using Series of 3D Models Generated from UAS Images

Since the Fourth Industrial Revolution, existing manpower-centric manufacture has been shifting towards technology and data-centric production in all areas of society. The construction sector is also facing a new paradigm called smart with clear purpose improving productivity securing safety by applying site management using information communications (ICT). This study aims to develop framework for earthwork process digitalization based on images acquired unmanned aerial system (UAS). entire includes precise UAS data acquisition, cut-and-fill volume estimation, cross-section drawing, geo-fencing generation. To this end, homogeneous time-series drone image were obtained from active road sites under earthwork. developed was able generate 3D topographical models estimate changes. In addition, proposed generated cross-sectional views each area interest throughout stages finally created assist safe operation heavy equipment. We expect that can contribute automating digitizing progress.
